FltMgr on XP SP1?

NTFSDers:

I’m finding a significant percentage of users that haven’t upgraded to SP2
on XP yet. (I large customer is deploying XP SP1 this week! )

We’ve been promised a redistributable for Win2K that will include Filter
Manager support. Anybody know if that might work for XP SP1 as well? Is
there any alternative?

The redistributable for win2k is (among other things) the kernel itself,
it will surely not work on XP :-).

Note that the redistributable of which I speak is *not* the same as the
Win2K full Update Rollup Pack (URP) – it’s just a redistributable for the
Filter Manager. AFAIK, nobody outside MS has seen the redistributable yet.
So in that context, do you know that it is limited to Win2K?

In addition, Neal et al have suggested an update of some sort for Filter
Manager on XP which will incorporate some things that exist in the Win2K URP
and Windows 2003 SP1 (like FltCreateFileEx).

Might that be another source for an XP SP1 solution?

Currently, there is a Release Candidate available, so it’s close (but no
cigar ;-).

No word on the redistributable…

Ken,

There is not going to be an update to XP SP1 to support filter manager.
The W2K URP will not run on XP for the reasons that Ladislav pointed
out. To use the filter manager on XP they must upgrade to SP2. Sorry,
we have limited resources in what OS’s could be supported.
