Filter Manager and Windows 2000

From what I can tell via Google, Filter Manager exists in Windows 2000 SP4 with this additional patch installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905590/

Seems like a minifilter is really the way I should go. I think I initially started with the legacy filter development because I didn’t think Win2K supported minifilters.

My question: In your experience, do minifilters work well in Win2000? I really need to support Win2K, and if I decide to go down the minifilter path, I’d hate to find out later that I made a mistake.

Thanks.

Yes. Absolutely. Without hesitation. Do it.

The only caveat is that your installation package will need to check for
filter manager and install the hotfix, and a reboot is required for it to
take effect. Note that filter manager also gets installed with Update
Rollup 1, so you do need to check.

Yes, actually the filter manager in w2k is a newer version than the one
in xp. They were released out of order. One thing you need to watch for
is some functions that are provided in w2k and srv03 are not present in
xp…
