filespy newbie question

Hi,

I’m using a version of the IFS kit for XP (2462), and I’m wondering if
there is a way to build the filespy example to run on a windows 2000
machine.

Thanks

Mike

Why dont you try ?

IIRC, the 2462 version of filespy uses stream contexts which are not available on Win2k.

IIRC , they can be used or not based on a define. they use conditional
compiling blocks.

When I initially tried to compile the examples in the XP kit using the 2000
environment it would not compile. IIRC, Molly Brown wrote that the XP
version does not contain the proper build environment for 2000, with no
plans to fix.

I have since switched back to the 2000 kit, which what Molly suggested.

The filespy sample from the XP IFS Kit will not build in the Windows
2000 build environment shipped with that version of the kit for two
reasons:

  1. As Stan said, the W2K build environment for the XP IFS Kit is broken.
This will be fixed in the XPSP1 IFS Kit, which will be released when XP
    Service Pack 1 is released.

  2. You will get compliation errors because we use interfaces in the XP
version of FileSpy that were not available on Windows 2000. I’ve fixed
this as well for the XPSP1 IFS Kit. The filter samples have been
modified so that they will build in both the W2K and XP build
environments using the appropriate conditional compilation markers to
make this possible. They even run and pass stress tests on both W2K and
    XP :).

If you have a working Windows 2000 build environment (which you can get
from the Windows 2000 IFS Kit until the XPSP1 kit is released), it’s not
that tought to make the changed necessary to get the XP filter samples
to build for W2K, especially if you don’t compile with
USE_STREAM_CONTEXT (default this is set to 0, so it won’t be using
filter stream contexts which were new for XP).
