Dear Max,
I am a FSD developer with limited experience. I have been approached to develop a File System driver based on the fact that I have developed a driver for the Ext2 file system. [http://freesourcecodes.tripod.com/ext2.htm http://sourceforge.net/projects/winext2fsd] This will be on contract basis.
I don’t have a clue as to what such a driver would cost to my client (the contactor) - how much I could charge. Could you give me some numbers? Please assume that it is a run-of-the-mill kind of driver - no bells and whistles.
I am totally clueless and a response would be highly appreciated.
I would be working alone, if I take this up. I would have to give up my job at Oracle India working on Oracle 11i (support), which I don’t like too much.
Thanks in advance!

In case you do want some opinion - I’d say stick with Oracle.
I don’t like DB programming much - but FS will give you bigger
trouble, more gray hair and a bigger stomach (fat stomach:-) -
probably:-)

Who is proposing to contract you? Are you thinking of doing this on a
fixed price contract? Why dont you stay at Oracle?
Hello all,
I am thinking of writing a File System Driver on NT/2K for ext3 File System purely for fun and interest. Well, I am totally new to this kind of software development and most of my experience is in systems-n/w programming on Unix/Linux and Windows NT/2K. I would really appreciate if somebody tells me where to start. Of course I’ll take a look at Manoj’s(referenced below) code, however, would like to know about differences between ext2 and ext3, where can I get to read about them etc…
