Driver release signing and WHQL

Learning driver signing issue on Windows 6 64 bit OS, I understand that release signing is enough to ensure that the driver can be installed. Regarding Microsoft WHQL program, this is kind of optional procedure. If I don’t do this, my driver can be installed, but with additional warning during installation. This is OK for me, and I can forget about WHQL for now. Is this correct?

Correct, unless your device is in any DRM-protected (Protected Media
Component) path. In this case you need additional signatures.
