Hi All,
//Platform : NT\Win2k
Is thre any documented difference between NT & Win2k in the support for IDE
Drives?
//—
Yes, it’s mentioned that in Win2k the atapi.sys doesn’t link to any ScsiPort
routines. It is all in one …ie a combination of Port\Miniport.
//—
We have an IDE HDD which behaves like a Write Protected device. ie Get Media
Status IDE command returns the WP flag set. In NT, this works fine …but in
Win2k … when we try copying files to the drive from explorer a system
message comes
.
—>
“System Process Lost Delayed-Write Data”
"The system was attempting to transfer file data from buffers to
\Device\Harddisk#\Partition#. The write operation failed, and only some of
the data may have been written to the file. "
<—
Actually we wanted the IDE HDD to behave like a normal CD ROM drive … ie
trying to copy files, shall result in the following err message.
—>
“Error copying the file”
“Can’t create or replace . Make sure that the disk is not
write protected and that the file is not currently in use.”

Can you pls share your thoughts in this?
Thanks
