DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM

Dear All,
I have this questions about symbolic links for serial ports.
In win2k we can find the symbolic Link names for all the ports under
the key devicemap\serialcomm \Devcie\Serial0, \Device\Serial1 etc.
But in Windows Me, the same columns contain just the names COM1, COM2 etc.
Due to this reason iam not able to claim Serial Ports on Windows Me.

Can anyone direct me how to find the Symbolic Link Names for the Serial
Ports on Windows Me

cheers
Sesha.

Hi Sesha,

For Windows Me, the serial driver is a vxd and Name (COM#) in the Device
Descriptor
Block of the driver should be good enough to make the port available. In
Addition, when
you install the driver, add “PortName”=“COM#” entry in the hardware section
key of the registry.
This will work. Time being you can manually add this entry, later for better
you can go for a
installer program which will do for you.

Cheers,

  • Jay
