current state of windbg over usb

I work almost entirely on win7: host and target. How practical is usb connection by now?
I just looked to buy a new Lenovo Thinkpad and noticed that the ever included
1394 port has been left out.

thanks,

It is just as sucky and delicate as it ever was. USB is especially
problematic on laptops, because the debugger cable must be plugged into
port number 0 of the root host controller, and many laptops have
internal devices connected to some of their USB ports, so that port 0 is
not assigned to an external port.

If it is your only option, then that’s what you do, of course.

Thanks Tim.

I’ll find a way to stick to 1394.

Use USBView to locate port #0.

A serial port connector is on the TP docking station (sold separately and
overpriced) - as always.
