Is there a kernel api to change a station IP address from within a
driver ?
Is it a good idea?
Usually, the IP addresses are set by user/admin from the network config UI or WMI scripts. I know of no other software which does this “under the hood”.

No such API for kernel, use the user mode IPHelper.
