build environment - addendum

Ajitabhp,

I realized that I did not properly answer your question in my earlier hasty
response. I believe for NT4, the proper sequence is:

  1. Install VC++
  2. Install SDK
  3. Install DDK

For Windows 2000, installing the SDK is optional.

Also the NT4 DDK had problems with pathnames that included spaces, while
VisualStudio almost demands that it installs using spaces in pathnames. All
of this mess appeared to go away with the W2K ddk, but for NT4 I recommend
that you clean up your development system and re-install VC, carefully
avoiding all attempts to put anything at all in ‘%SystemDrive%\Progam
Files\what ever’ and instead use only non-space-containing pathnames.

For NT4, the only thing needed from SDK is SETENV.BAT.
I can send it to anybody.
