Bugcheck Code 0x00000030

Hello,

Does anybody know the meaning of the Bugcheck Code 0x00000030 ?
The name is SET_OF_INVALID_CONTEXT and info in the brackets after
this is all 0000s.

Anybody have any ideas what this means and how I should go about
debugging this ?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Puja

I think this has to do with the stack frame. I would check for problems with
your stack. This is a very unusual error…

Hello,

This time the problem happened when WinDbg hung (and I restarted it once but could not establish connection) and I restarted it the second time. [I am not sure these were the circumstances when I saw the blue-screen first time, 2 days ago]

I have given below the stack trace from WinDbg. I still have the screen below, as I think if I say in WinDbg, it will cause it to blue-screen. The code is the same 0x00000030 (SET_OF_INVALID_CONTEXT).

Since I’m new to WinDbg, could somebody please help me figure out what is going on ?

A few questions:

1. What is the meaning of No FPO ?
2. What is TrapFrame-EDITED @ 8047052c ?

3. ~ display threads on CPU 0, 1 and 2 as running. Does pressing in WinDbg not stop all the CPUs ? If so, then why are threads on CPU 0, 1 and 2 are said to be “Running” ?

4. The stack for CPU 3 shows some routine KiUnlockDispatcherDatabase() as causing the BugCheck. Any ideas what this does ?

Appreciate any help you can offer me!

Thanks
Puja

This bug check occurs when there’s a stack underflow detected when restoring
context coming out of a trap. There’s a check to validate that the current
ESP is less than the ESP saved in the trap frame. If current_esp <
saved_esp, bugcheck.

The trace is interesting. Little digging will show that
KiRestoreProcessorState() is only called from within the kernel debugger
module when coming out of stopped state. This is consistent with the
description saying it’s cauased by hitting ‘go’. Whatever corruption
occurred, happened while the system was in the kdb. I’ve never seen this
(which doesn’t mean much).

Couple of questions:
What’s running on your target? What version of WinDbg are you running on
your host? What’re you doing between stopping the system & hitting ‘go’? Are
you running your own debugger extensions?

I don’t know if this is a kdb problem, or something you’re doing while the
target’s stopped. Probably not your code.

You’ve posted this a couple of times, so I suppose you can recreate it at
will?

Steve, thanks for your response.

What’s running on your target? What version of WinDbg are you running on
your host? What’re you doing between stopping the system & hitting ‘go’? Are
you running your own debugger extensions?

On target (MS Windows 2000 Ver 5.0 Build 2195), I’m trying to test my Win2K
Bus Driver, using a dummy Win2K Function Driver.

Version of WinDbg: Ver 5.0 (Build 2195), 5.00.2184.1

I was just looking at the stack, etc. between stopping the system and
hitting ‘go’.

I am not running my own debugger extensions (I’m new to WinDbg and NT
kernel-mode debugging and don’t know how to write 'em either).

You’ve posted this a couple of times, so I suppose you can recreate it at
will?

I’ve seen it a couple of times, but I don’t know how to recreate it. Both
times it happened, I don’t know what triggered it. Once it happened when I
stopped/restarted WinDbg, but the other time, this was not the case.

Any help or information you can provide is really appreciated.

Thanks
Puja

Subject: [ntdev] RE: Bugcheck Code 0x00000030

Hello,

This time the problem happened when WinDbg hung (and I restarted it once but
could not establish connection) and I restarted it the second time. [I am not sure these were the circumstances when I saw the blue-screen first time, 2 days ago]

I have given below the stack trace from WinDbg. I still have the screen
below, as I think if I say in WinDbg, it will cause it to blue-screen.
