Boot activity and Boot time

Hi,
Anybody has idea how the BOOTVIS.exe tool, from microsoft(only for XP), gets
the “BOOT TIME”(the time from the moment u powered on the machine to the
moment the “log on” screen appears).

In general, can anyone give me clues for finding the boot time, and the
details and locations of boot activity stored by XP.(it stores the boot
activity for 8 consequective boots)

Any information would be very useful.
thanks,

Are you try to measuring and comparing the XP boot time difference between
Intel Pentium-III/M and Transmeta Crusoe powered notebook?

The boot time displayed by bootvis is not the moment you powered on the
machine and the log on screen appears. Bootvis only start recodes when
kernel timer is initialized to the first windows explorer shell is
considered initialized.

In reality, I heard Microsoft will measure manually the moment you press the
power button to the first (windows explore shell) gui component is
initialized, i.e. the start button is displayed. This is definitely before
the logon windows appear if the machine has multiple enabled user accounts.
