Hi, I am not actually developing a driver for my ati tv wonder pro but using a oem driver or something like that and I need help editing the inf file for it. Here is my situation. I don’t know where to go or where to get help for getting a driver made or the ones I have to work for my ati tv wonder pro pci tv tuner/video capture card so I found this site and thought I’d join and post to get help. Anyways right now I have two drivers from Conexant who makes the chipsets for this card. One is cxavsvid.sys and the other is cxavs64.sys. One is older and one is newer. I’ve got the inf file for them and I need help editing them to make either one or the other driver work. My problem with the cxavsvid.sys driver is that it doesn’t display the video output but just a black screen. I’ve got sound and the ability to switch between tuner, composite, and svideo. The problem with the cxavs64.sys is that it freezes the program like for example windows media encoder x64 edition for awhile when I switch between inputs like composite. Here are the links to download the drivers and the inf file i have. Please provide input as to what to omit and what to add/correct thanks. If anybody out there has a driver developed for x64 windows please reply thanks!

What leads you to think that an INF change is going to fix anything? It
sounds like you are encountering driver bugs. For that, you need to go
to ATI.

I spent a bunch of time one day trying to get my TV Wonder PCI card working on Win 2k8. The closest I came was just getting one of the three input modes working (not tuner). The OS wouldn’t give the proper settings dialog box to switch between composite, S-Video and Tuner. In the end I figure it’s a loss and the software/hardware just wasn’t made for the newer operating systems.
The closest I came was using the software package from here:
http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/
It’s possible that I just didn’t find the right settings and those drivers could work.
If you have any more success than I did, let me know!

Hi,
?? The btwincap drivers are for the tv wonder pci and ve I think not the tv wonder pro. The tv wonder pro uses the conexant cx2388x chipset I believe and the tv wonder pci uses a different chipset yeah.

Well, that’s little more than wishful thinking, with no basis in
reality. What you’re describing are driver problems. In some cases,
manufacturers will put register initialization sequences in the registry
via their INF files, but the INF you posted has no such thing.
ATi has terrible support for this card.
I’ll wager you’re saying that without ever having tried. Did you get on
a telephone to their technical support? If you paid for the card,
you’re entitled to do that.

I still believe that proper changes to the inf file (which i don’t know) could make it work.
I’ve called ati several times and all they say is there is nothing they can do except suggest using win xp sp2.

How old the hardware is?
I’ve heard that the market life of the minor hardware title is 0.5 years, 1 year at most, after which the vendor just forgets about it and moves on.

Correct. The cost of developing such a driver will be rather high, either in money or in man*hours.
Investing such money and such man*hours to the outdated piece of hardware (which is probably already off-sales) is not a wise decision.
But… well, there are people who can write the driver themselves (no money), and consider they man*hours to be extremely cheap, much cheaper then going to the local store and buying a new USD 50 TV tuner card. Then this is the way to go.

Usually, INF file has nothing in it except the .sys file name, registry key name, hardware ID and human-readable hardware name. Well, also the version stamp.
I don’t think INF file replacement can solve the driver issue.

Driver, yes. INF, no. It doesn’t matter what you believe. You can’t
fix this in an INF. The INF is little more than a script for copying files.

I’m not offering criticism. I’m trying to be realistic. I’ve given you
the facts three times, and you have chosen to disregard them because you
“believe” you can fix this by tweaking the INF.
Writing a set of capture drivers for a TV Tuner card is not a trivial
undertaking. I know this, because I’ve done a number of them. It’s
typically 10 to 12 weeks of full time work for an experienced developer,
and that’s assuming you have the cooperation of the manufacturer to get
the chip specifications and technical support.
Your board is an orphan. It’s unfortunate, but it happens. Only ATI
can fix this problem. If they won’t fix it, then you have a
paperweight. You can either replace it, or dual-boot to Linux and use
the card there.
