What is the default Windows XP ATA timeout, if one exists? I know that SCSI
timeouts can be minutes.

which timeout?
Command timeouts are set by the class drivers, which don’t care if
they’re running on scsi or ata.
Transport level timeouts (waitng for the ATA BSY bit or retrying on SCSI
BUSY messages, etc…) are under the control of the bus driver.
