I’ve seen several people mention that they disable the 1394 adapter on the
target system to make 1394 debugging more reliable. I’ve never had to do
that, and I think I might have discovered why. When I first plugged in the
1394 adapters, XP helpfully displayed some 1394 networking dialogs which I
have long since forgotten. Not wanting to deal with that stuff at all, I
promptly disabled the 1394 Net Adapter in the device manager on both
systems, and then forgot about that. Since I was using the 1394 adapter to
access a peripheral, as well as the debugging transport, disabling the
adapter didn’t even occur to me.
So the bottom line is that 1394 *may* be just as reliable by only disabling
the 1394 net adapters, though your mileage may vary, of course.

This is still a myth to me.
I tried all kinds of tricks and 1394 would sometimes work on one model but fail on the other models.
Any tips would be appreciated.
