0 byte print job, "Local Download Document"

Hi,

I got zero byte print job and this job name is “Local Download D
ocument”, when I print to LPTn which was mapped to network share?

  1. Who puts this strings, “Local Download Document” into print job?

  2. Why is “Local Download Document” put into print job as zero byte
job, when printing to LPTn which was mapped to network share?

  3. What is this job?

Thanks is advance.
Kimi

When network is involved the print server’s spooler may have no way of
determining the name of document you are printing. In my experience
the name was “Local Downlevel Document”. If print server implements
a postscript rip then it may be able to scan for comments embedded in
postscript itself.
As far as zero length is concerned, you don’t say whether print was
succesfull or not. Again, if postscript is involved, a macintosh based
client interacting with a postscript printer expects to be able to query
printer for information and get responses. These may show as zero
length prints in some cases.
If you are not using postscript maybe the spooler on your local machine
is attempting to ‘interact’ with device it expects to see on local LPT
port to get information.

It seems like the print job “Local Download Document” with zero bytes may be a result of a misconfiguration or a communication issue between the printing device and the network share.

It appears that the “Local Download Document” print job, yielding zero bytes, could stem from a potential misconfiguration or a communication glitch between the printing device and the network share.

It seems like you guys are answering a 20 year old post.
