All legacy WDKs are gone

I know Windows CE (compact embedded) is going away. However while a version of CE was supported you could get the relevant version of Visual Studio with Platform Builder.

So for Windows CE 7, if you bought platform builder, it came with a copy of VS 2008 even though you could no longer get VS 2008.(Or was it VS 2005?).

Microsoft abandoned the SBC market after the Windows 10 IoT core debacle (apparently). Correct me if I am wrong. However the SBC provider Toradex is moving to Linux so it certainly looks like this is the case.

Thankfully Microsoft has released Windows 11 IoT LTSC and we are looking to move to that. However the way they treat products that are still covered by service does not give me a lot of confidence.

That’s a pre-MSBuild environment, definitely not worth the headache for any new projects.

We certainly do not intend to use that for new projects. We just need to be able to maintain existing products for that build’s lifecycle.
