A Query!

Hi all,

Is there any limit on the number of Ethernet interfaces native TCP/IP in NT
4.0 can handle.
not the physical slots the logical interfaces.

we tried with 6 ethernet interfaces and i can ping only four of them!!!

thanks,

To my knowledge, only RRAS places a limit, which I think is 8 LAN and 32 WAN
adapters. If you don’t know what RRAS is, then you’re not using it!

I’ve run a number of systems with 5 LAN interfaces and have not seen a
problem. I suggest you double-check all your interface addresses and subnet
masks.

It may also be a problem with the LAN adapter driver itself. I’ve seen some
commercial drivers that take shortcuts and make assumptions that they should
not. I would not be surprised if you discovered that the driver itself only
supported 4 adapters.

To test that, you could install 3 of one type and 3 of another type (with
different drivers) and see if it works then.

[Also, please give messages useful subjects in the future so that
uninterested people can delete it if it does not interest them.]

Due to the limitation on the number of filters you can have installed, there
was a limitation on the number of NICs (I think 32 max) on NT4.0 up through
SP2. On SP3 and later, this limitation was removed.
