Advance Notice: Community Forums Are Moving

Peter_Viscarola_(OSR)Peter_Viscarola_(OSR) Administrator Posts: 9,160

An early warning for those who might care: We (OSR) are planning to migrate these forums to a new, more modern and more functional platform sometime during the first quarter of 2024.

The new forum system will have all the (significant) features that exist on this platform, plus numerous enhancements: Easier post formatting (MUCH better markdown handling), better organization, and the ability for users to get new forum posts via email, and even to interact with the forums entirely via email if they so desire (among other advantages).

We will move all the content that's on this platform to the new one: Yes, even the content that originated on the old mailing lists more than 25 years ago.

We current plan to move all users along with their passwords and custom avatars. We expect that you won't have to do anything other than log in to the new forum (via the same URL as we use now and enjoy the new interface.

We will give you as much advance notice of the move as is practical.

When we do the move, we expect that we'll set this forum to "read only" for a few days, while we export the database content from here and import it to the new platform.

We're happy to answer any questions you might have about the move -- We're hoping that, besides enjoying the new look/feel/features, the transition should be something resembling "smooth." :-)

Sneak Peek (looks pretty similar, right?)
