Yet Again WFP

I tried the imagepath change, in the CurrentControlset, in this case,
for disk.sys (class driver). I had another folder (in parallel with
~\drivers) named myfolder, so I can avoid any confusion about c:,d: etc.
As soon as, I restart, xp/sp1 tells me, sorry I could not boot. As
CurrentControlset1, … Were there --last good know – helped me to boot
again…

Lots of docs needs to be updated on MS site I suppose, I don’t see the
XP specific. There is an utility once provided by OSR for win2k, that is
not modified I think, since another fellow was kind to put a question
(where is the beef(xp/sp1) :). Yesterday I tried tweakManager, and WfP
both demands to have a way to do what I want for xp/sp1, they don’t
work. NOTE: SOMETIME SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK IS GOOD TOO!.

Again, if anyone was able to play with this, and was able to replace one
of the MS supplied drivers(golds:), let me know. Meanwhile I would be on
the hunt, while I’m being haunted…

SFPControl does indeed work on XP but you need to disable file
protection and then reboot with a debugger attached before the change will
actually take.

Okay, now I found a way to do this. There is a directory at the uplevel
(driver Cache) that seems to have .cab files for each level of SP
upgrades. If I drag them to a different directory, then replacing
native-systems drivers works. I was waiting for the dlgbox, that would
say you are replacing something, sys integrity …

Of course, I’ve those registry setting as stated in MS wfp doc for w2k.
Still w/o dragging those cabs, it was not working … Finally I did not
go for the absoulte minimum things to do to get this going, sometime
later…

BTW, Thanks to Arlie, Micheal, and Scott …

That is only true for WinDbg/KD AFAIK, not just any kernel debugger. Also,
as soon as you boot without WinDbg hooked up *wham* SFP comes right back in
and screws up your target.

The renaming or moving of cab files is the best solution if you like to be
certain that the driver you intended to run is indeed the driver that is
running.

Yes, Ur observation matches with mine. For some strange reason, I could not
get it to work w/o driving those cabs thru NY :). Now this method works, so
