Hi!
Just got a nice new Dell 670 and tried installing XP Checked. It reads the
CD ok then when it goes to “Starting Windows” during the install it blue
screens with a Bug Check code of 0000007E. Tried both the sp1a disk and the
no-sp disk; both act the same. Tried disabling just about everything not
needed in the BIOS with same result. BIOS is the latest. Free build
installs fine. Server 2003 Checked installs fine.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jerry.
Which exeception code? Try connecting a debugger (note you may have to play
some tricks, see my article on OSR Online
http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?id=264). A lot of Dell’s use an Intel
ethernet controller, and this would assert leading to a breakpoint or a Bug
Check 7E if there was no debugger present.
