hi,
does anyone have some slightly more detailed information about win xp compatibility mode (especially compatibility mode for win98) than the kb articels provide?
what exactly does it do? e.g. does i grant access to I/O ports ?
how does it behave if a process (with compatibility mode enabled) creates a new process?
regards,
daniel.

No, it isn’t THAT compatible…
There are a handful of APIs that change behavior between different
versions of the operating system. When the compatibility flags are set,
those APIs try to behave as they did on the old systems. For example,
in Win98 mode, the version number will report as if it were Win98.
