WinUSB and Win8

After Peter’s excited reporting of UMDF changes in Win8, I see an interesting development with WinUSB:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh450799(v=VS.85).aspx

Does this mean users will be allowed to plug in WinUSB compatible devices and run non-administrator applications to talk to the devices?

Well, it certainly means I no longer need to write an INF file and
install a driver package. Whether access is allowed from
non-administrator applications is a topic not addressed by this note.
We’ll have to see what the ACL looks like.

This would be a relatively simple change to back-port to the older
operating systems, by the way, hint hint. Even as far back as XP.

If you modify the device USB descriptors necessary way. Which may not be so easy and doesn’t handle existing devices. Anyway, it is interesting idea and great improvement.
