Thanks Tony. Yeah, I’m not too concerned at this point given the delay in
release, etc. The main point I was worried about is if there is any chance
of WinFS significantly changing or supplanting the current filter driver
model that would be a big concern…

I’m not sure why anyone would worry about this at this point, given that
WinFS isn’t even scheduled for a specific release yet and is thus likely to
change between now and then.
However, I’d assume it will behave similar to the way that WebDAV works
(user mode service and kernel mode file service, where the kernel mode part
“reflects” most of the calls to user mode). This is similar to the way that
Microsoft Research first demonstrated many years ago (as a way to build user
mode file systems).
But, seriously, given Microsoft’s recent announcement that WinFS would not
be present in Longhorn, I personally wouldn’t give this any significant
number of cycles at the present time.
Regards,
Tony

Subject: [ntfsd] WinFS and filter drivers?
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the direction of any information regarding
how filter drivers that exist for NTFS will work (or not work) with WinFS?
Or even any information about filter drivers co-existing with with WinFS? I
haven’t seen to much on the web in the area, but I’m sure it’s of much
interest to many people reading this list…
Thanks,
Matt
