Will the XP IFS kit eventually support W2K?

Will the XP IFS kit eventually support W2K builds? The XP IFS installation page
clearly says, “This version of the IFS Kit is to produce drivers for Windows XP
only.”

Maybe it works already? I compiled fastfat and cdfs in the old NTDDK directory
using the XP IFS kit–no errors. Some of the other filesys stuff did have
problems.

Demyn,

The XP version of the IFS Kit does not contain the build environment for
building W2K drivers. There are no plans to update the XP version of
the kit, but the .NET version of the kit will contain the build
environment for W2K, XP, and .NET.

If you need to build W2K drivers, I suggest ordering the W2K version of
the IFS Kit from http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/ifskit. In addition to
the W2K build environment, you also receive the W2K versions of the
samples.

Thanks,

I hate to disagree with you, Molly, but the XP IFS Kit I got just two days
ago has the entire XP DDK, including W2K and WinMe *DDK* build
environments. In fact, it required that I uninstall the previous XP DDK
before installing.

I don’t believe it has any of the W2K IFS support in it, but I haven’t
looked for that. Based on the specific wording on the IFS Kit site, and in
the XP IFS Kit documentation I’ve looked at so far, I don’t expect to find
any W2K IFS support in it. So I do agree with your suggestion that the
original poster buy the W2K IFS Kit if he needs to support W2K.

Phil,

Your right – I left out a word in my earlier posting. I meant to say
“The XP version of the IFS Kit does not contain the build environment
for building W2K fsfilter drivers”. Specifically, the XP version of
the IFS Kit is missing the W2K versions of IFS headers and libs, but it
does have the W2K version of the DDK headers and libs.

Thanks for clarifying,

Molly

Thanks for your response and the clarifications. It’s good to know the next
IFSkit will consolidate some of the versions. Our product supports W2K onward,
so will be a good match and should simplify our development environment.

Regards,
Demyn
