Whats the interface used by perfmon to collect network statistics?

Whats the interface used by perfmon to collect network Interface statistics
like packets received/recived packets discarded, outbounds packets etc?

Thanks,

I suspect it would send the statistics OIDs, much like the little status window for each network adapter does.

Look at the statistis OIDs.

The reason is that we have a tool that will send same OID down to the
network miniport and get the stats.

This number is different from the value provided by perfmon and netstat.

That was the reason I was trying to query again.

Moreover the number provided by netstat is exactly twice the number given by
perfmon.
Not sure if this is a bug in netapp.

As per your advice I did search msdn for gettcpstatistcis & friends.

Thanks,
-Praveen

I can’t speak for Perfmon, but netstat.exe, arp.exe and route.exe get
or set their information via the SNMP MIB II interface for
TDI. (Although those utilities are IP specific, TDI is transport
agnostic and the internal definitions owe a lot to OSI terminology)

I had to reverse engineer all the functionality of the above
utilities over 10 years ago now. It wasn’t and still isn’t
documented, though the low level header files give most of the clues.

Today however, you don’t need to delve that deeply, look at the
IPHelper APIs that wrap calls to the MIB for you. You’ll find them
in IPHlpApi.h.

I expect netstat to use IP Helper API and send queries to TCPIP, not
directly to the miniport.
