What does a write on a Directory mean?

I’ve seen a few reads and writes on directory objects (these happen,
from time to time-;), and I found no clue as to what they mean-
Anyone have an idea?

The stock file systems memory map their metadata. Consequently, a filter
sees paging IO for these objects when they are read or modified by the file
system driver.

I guess.

May be Reading Directory contents and Writing Directory contents back to
Disk if any change. For example if u create any file in one Directory OS
will update Directory entries( By writing sectores back to disk ).
