Peoples,
I’m running on a hyperthreaded Intel P4 machine with the Springdale chip
set. We bumped into this very puzzling problem: if a driver returns
STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL from its DriverEntry, it will reboot the machine if it
loads before ACPI.SYS. If I load the same driver after ACPI.SYS, no problem.
Any DriverEntry will cause it to happen, even an empty one that does nothing
but return the status. Two questions, first, what would ACPI.SYS be doing to
the system to prevent that reboot, and second, would this be a bug in
ntoskrnl.exe ? Btw, I’m running on WinXP SP1.
Any comment, lead, shared experience, will be highly welcome !
Alberto.
