WDM

Hello All,
this is my first mail to the NTDEV community.
I have a question.

We have developed a Win NT Device Driver for a PCI
card. But we find that this driver is no more
compatible with non win NT platforms (like Win2K/Win
9x). I know that a Windows Driver Model(WDM) will
resolve this problem. But I am not used to work with
WDM. So can somebody through light on

  1. Porting an existing Win NT driver to WDM
  2. Good reference books for WDM
  3. Effort involved in the porting assignment.

Your input will be of great help.
Thanks in advance
with regards

Hi Raju,

u can refer,

“Writing windows Device Driver” by Cris cant in which there is comparison of
win nt with win 2000…

Walter oney’s " programming the microsoft windows driver model" also will
help u a lot in writing wdm code…

www.osr.com has got many resources in which there is an article which
explains about porting of NT driver to wdm…

http://students.cs.byu.edu/~nbushman/drivers.htm this link has all the other
links where u can find excellent info about driver development,

regards,

shiva prasad

  1. Porting an existing Win NT driver to WDM
  2. Good reference books for WDM
  1. DDK documentation, chapter on PnP and Power Management. Toaster
    sample.
  2. Walter Oney’s book.
  1. Effort involved in the porting assignment.

Not large.

Max

I would highly recommend either “Programming the Windows Driver Model” by
Walter Oney, or “The Windows 2000 Device Driver Book, A Guide for
Programmers” by Art Baker and Jerry Lozano.

Each has it’s own style of presentation, but I find both equally
informative.
