USB Hub driver - Windows XP/SP2

Hi All,

I was asked to write generic usb hub driver on Windows XP/SP2 platform.
The main functionality of the driver is to do tests on the devices attached to it. I don’t know where to start, DDK has limited documentaions on this. All your suggestions and information are valuable.

Thanks in Advance,
Cyril

Do you wish to write a test driver which will interact with hub driver to
test the devices attached to the hub OR you need write complete Hub Driver
itself?

Complete hub driver will be better. Adding Filter drivers to the usbhub.sys has some problems I guess.

“You guess?” The difference in effort between writing an upper filter
to the existing usbhub.sys and redesigning usbhub.sys from scratch is
considerable. You had better be certain before you make a commitment
like this.

It is unlikely that you will ever find a better and more authoritative
source for this kind information than this list. If you have heard
rumors or wild speculations about problems filtering usbhub.sys, you
should ask about them here.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are trying to redesign generic hub driver. Because we are planning to test the hardrivers connected under that hub also We don’t want windows to enumerate those drives. It is the kind of the testing more harddrives at one short.

Thanks,
Cyril
