On W2K I encountered the following problem:
When I try to update the driver for a PCI Network Card then the Update Device Driver Wizard tells me that a suitable driver is already installed. However, the floppy disk I pointed the wizard to contains a newer driver than the installed one.
For example:
The oemX.inf in the system’s INF dir contains:
DriverVer=12/27/2002,2.10.0.0
The inf on the floppy contains:
DriverVer=02/06/2003,2.14.0.0
Why does the wizard not update the driver to the version?

Further investigations show that on Win98 the Update Driver Wizard behaves as expected (using the same INFs as on W2K). It automatically updates to the newer version of the driver. If I try to install an older version the wizard tells me that I already have the best drivers installed. However, I can force the wizard to install the older version by using the Have Disk button.
