Trouble installing the RamDisk KMDF sample

I built the RamDisk sample and am having trouble installing it. I’m
using DPInst.exe and in DPInst.log I see the error:

ERROR: Catalog file ‘c:\documents and
settings\user\desktop\ramdisk\KmdfSamples.cat’ not found. Integrity
check of driver package ‘ramdisk.inf’ failed.

I searched my DDK install and I can’t find this file anywhere. I also
searched Google (and OSR) and found nothing.

Two questions:

  1. Where can I get this file?
  2. Why isn’t anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
–Jeremy

What OS and architecture is this on? What is the signing policy set to?

WindowsXP x86. The signing policy is set to whatever is the default.

I found another post somewhere that mentioned that DifxApi (which DPInst
uses) doesn’t support virtual drivers (which RamDisk is), so even if I
figured out the catalog issue, the point may be moot.

I ended up building devcon and using that tool to install the driver. I
am still curious, though, as to why the sample includes the catalog file
in RamDisk.inf if it is not included (and when using devcon, not necessary).

Now that I have my driver installed, I have a new question- how do I
load/unload it? Other than a reboot, are there programmatic tools that I
can use? I used OSRLoader on another (legacy) driver, but it doesn’t
seem to work on the KMDF based RamDisk sample.

And finally, when replying to posts my news reader (Thunderbird)
automatically replies to the e-mail address of the post-er, CC’s the
mailing list, and posts to the newsgroup- is this customary? I don’t
want anyone to feel like they are getting spammed…
Thanks,
–Jeremy

As with all pnp device stacks, you can use devcon (devcon disable) or go
to device manager and disable it there. The cat file is there so that
you know it is something you need to change when you deploy the INF.
