Hi All,
I am using Windows ddk for xp to build a filter driver for file system.
I tried to copy the data using MdlAddress. But when i install my driver and
restart the system it shows me the logon screen and then restarts
immediately. I am not using Norton Anti virus.
Please help me in resolving this problem. Even if any sample code.
Regards
Yashasvi

Try reading the FAQ on this site first - we point to WinDBG in numerous
places, not to mention other resources.
Try http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/ddk/debugging for the debugger itself.
File system filter drivers are a terrible place to start learning kernel
development on Windows - the OS is very intolerant of mistakes, as you
are learning.

Hi All,
Thanks for help.
Yeah it is bit difficult i understand. I had tried my hands at NDIS earlier
and was able to be bit productive. But here it is certainly difficult.
Thanks in any case.
Regards
Yashasvi
Developing a file system filter driver is a difficult
task for a novice. Try setting up a debugger, start by
reading the DDK docs, and even attend an OSR file
systems seminar if you can afford it.
Otherwise, try to read about file systems development,
experience and understand as much as you can. This
kind of driver can be very time consuming.

Razvan

I don’t know why you are mentioning Norton Antivirus, but maybe
your restart has more prozaic reason that you think. If you
don’t set generating crash dump in System/Startup and Shutdown
properties, and if you check the “Automatically restart”
checkbox, the system will behave exactly as you describing, if
any exception
occurs in the kernel (your driver). As a driver developer, you
should configure the settings to see the Blue Screen of Death,
generate a crach dump which is then possible to analyze in
WinDbg.
