Supporting USB interface to a printer

Hi all,

I already have a printer driver setup for parallel port interface and it’s working fine with my printer. We’re planning to add an USB interface to the same printer. I have gone through the archives of this mailing list and as per my understanding we need not write any drivers for USB support. Microsoft supplied usbprint.sys and usbmon.dll will be loaded when the printer is connected to the USB port and all other user level components above the spooler remain same for USB. Is my understanding correct? or Am I missing something? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Your understanding is correct. If you comply with the usb printing spec, you will get the generic usb printing class driver loaded for your device.
