SCSI question

All,
In a host(server) connected to a storage array, say FC
host connected to an FC array, is there a way for
software running on the host to determine if a volume
exported by the storage array is a RAID-1, RAID-0 or
any other raid level? Is it possible to find out
information like RPM for the drives being used? I
checked out the SCSI specs and didnt find anything
there atleast.

No, this must be the array-vendor-dependent thing.

Yes, it is vendor dependent, but one would now expect to see vendors
shipping VDS hardware providers in support of their storage arrays.

VDS 1.0 arrived with Win2K3 and supports FC only. VDS 1.1 is out in
the Windows R2 release and supports FC, iSCSI and PCI RAID, it also
adds a new MMC page for configuring LUNs on a SAN.

The VDS APIs are open to everyone and they can give you all the
information you’re asking for.

Regards,

Mark.
