hi
Has anybody tried debugging with windbg on a Intel-based Mac laptop, either running Parallels or by booting into Window (via Boot Camp)?
If so:
- did it work well for you?
- which mac did you try it on (laptop?)?
- what type of debugging connection did you use (usb, usb-to-serial, 1394)?
thanks in advance
Hello. This is an answer that may be usefult to you, on behalf of my colleague Inaki Echevarria:
Has anybody tried debugging with windbg on a Intel-based Mac laptop, either running Parallels or by booting into Window (via Boot Camp)?
If so:
- did it work well for you?
Running parallels: Yes ( running 2 instances of Parallels and using a socket ( similar to VMWare’s “pipe” option, but since using it in OSX, two parallels instances are needes, one instance per VM, and both instances need to be using that socket option to simulate the serial port ) ).
Under BootCamp: ( better use bulletproff VMWare and debug using real machine as client and the virtual machine as server; simulate the serial port as always ( use pipe, the other end is an application ) ).
2) which mac did you try it on (laptop?)?
MacBook. but MacBook Pro has been also reported to work in exactly the same way.
- what type of debugging connection did you use (usb, usb-to-serial, 1394)?
See 1 and 2. May be the included firewire port could be used for real ( machine to machine ) kernel debugging…
