Subject: [ntdev] RE: Win2K and NT4 intermediate Q’s, plus one or two
other s.Do you know if the IMSAMP from Microsoft has a working
oemsetup.inf file?
I examined ImSamp only once probably in 1997 when introduced. Included
oemsetup.inf file was insufficient and I expected real problems if used for
‘real world’ driver. Sorry, I don’t remember details, we already had working
one so I didn’t examine it too much. Maybe things changed since then.
Certainly my adapters and things
appeared in network control panel AOK, and DriverEntry
runs, so I assumed I was somewhat correct.
If I remember correctly, NCPA uses quite different part of registry
(SOFTWARE hive) for this info than NDIS when loading adapters (SYSTEM\Ccs).
It is quite possible to have properly loaded driver which isn’t displayed in
the NCPA. I have seen some commercial firewall which wrote adapters
information directly to registry and ignored NCPA at all. Of course, if an
user run NCPA and start binding engine by accident, it would lead to
corrupted network registry settings. This approach is acceptable during
development only (and registry backup is recommended).
And the
protocol is bound to a network card or two (Even the
upper half of itself!)
It is incorrect, of course. Try to prune binding information by hand
(Linkage\Bind).
Unfortuneately, if I disable the miniport, it hangs
Device manager, and I won’t be able to shutdown.
If I do uninstall, it tells me I need to reboot, but the
miniport’s still present after reboot, although with a ?
'cause the driver .sys file is removed when the protocol
uninstalls.I meant to say, (and this is the important bit!) it’s a
WAN/TAPI adapter, and this only happens (Can’t disable)
after I have dialed (or attempted to dial) through the
driver.
It can be caused by some outstanding devices references. Nothing unusual
with RAS. Try to examine devices’ reference count before and after dial.
Thanx for those suggestions, I’m gonna go try and work
out the oemsetup.inf and registry formats now!
Good luck.
Best regards,
Michal Vodicka
