Subject: [ntdev] Re: Why not use BUILD [was Re: Errors while
building samples of DriverStudio in Windows XP]Ack!!! Please do not perpetuate the misconception that there is any DOS
in
NT. It is a 32-bit system console. Even in Windows 9X, it is a 32-bit
console.
Nope. Even the latest (hopefully) wME uses real-time command.com. 4DOS is
much better but still 16-bit.
They don’t need cmd.exe to do remote things on your machine
(though that may be THEIR way). If they can launch cmd.exe as a remote
process, they can probably launch whatever they want.
It isn’t so easy. For some kind of attack they need to know the exact
executable name including path so c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe can really
help. Sure, they can start another standard executable but need something
which is able to interprent some kind of script.
On another subject,
I have a hard time using a machine without 4NT by JPSoft (I have been
using
some flavor for about 15 years). cmd.exe sucks rocks (don’t even mention
command.com I will barf).
Me too Last time I used “type” command with several file names at once
in makefile and guess what. It worked well with 4NT I use and also with cmd
but didn’t work for a collegaue who uses w9x.
