I think the GPL folks would argue that selling software is evil (all I
can say to that it “ha”), but to answer your question, how about MySQL
AB? They have an interesting licensing arrangement for this (free for
GPL users, license for proprietary commercial distributors). See here:

Actually, quite a few places use that model. Mostly for middleware,
though…
There’s also the route of shareware, which *many* people make money on
(not necessarily huge amounts, but who said anyone was going to make
obscene profits this way :-). They don’t necessarily use a GPL like
license, though…
