RE: SoftIce Problem

The production version of Windows 2000 is build 2195. BoundsChecker and
SoftICE tracked the Windows 2000 development throughout the various betas of
W2K. As new builds came out we provided updates on our web site for
customers. In some cases the updates were free and in other cases if we
came out with a major version the update was chargable.

In order to get official support for Windows 2000 the customer will need to
upgrade to the version that officially supports Windows 2000. I suspect
that this is the currently shipping version of SoftICE. If the customer is
using one of our earlier builds that we provided during the W2K beta it most
likely won’t work with the final version of Windows 2000.

BoundsChecker and SoftICE both depend on fairly specific knowledge about how
the operating system works in order to do our job. As a result we need to
update whenever things change in incompatable ways.

I recommend that you have the customer call NuMega technical support. There
are several excellent people there that will be able to help solve the
customers problem.

Here’s the portion of the online help that describes how to get in contact

Subject: [ntdev] SoftIce Problem.

Hi all,

I want to load SoftIce (Debugger) while booting on Windows 2000.
I am using 2195 build of Win2K. SoftIce doesn’t support this build other
than previous builds of 2038.
As per the instructions given by SoftIce’s NT5Boot.txt file, I have
downloaded the keyboard driver and replaced the system supplied
driver with the downloaded one and installed SoftIce, but the Keyboard is
still not functioning.
Then I have tried with loading SoftIce after boot option. But system
displays blue screen after loading SoftIce mannually.
Could anyone of u have the solution for SoftIce problem?

Thanks in advance,
Syed.
