RE: SoftIce causes page fault at boot time (Windows 2- 000)

Cool! I was going to suggest you play with the UVD and VGA settings in the
SoftIce video setup, but I was also hoping that a new video driver would
solve the problem. The problem with this kind of debugging tool is that it
cuts so deep into the system that it risks exposing minor problems that
would otherwise not be seen. It flushes the bugs out!

I’m glad the new driver fixes it. If I can be of any further help, let me
know!

Alberto.

Alberto,

I downloaded the latest video driver and the problem went away.

Thank you very much,

Don

Alberto,

I am not running BoundsChecker. Here is the video info: ATI Technologies
Inc. RAGE 128 GL AGP
ati2draa.dll and ati2mpaa.sys File version 5.0.80. In the mean time I will
try new driver from ATI and possibly a different video card.

Thanks,

Don

Don, do you have any more detail ? Are you running BoundsChecker ? Sometimes
what happens is that something triggers an event that BoundsChecker catches,
and SoftIce pops for that reason. If that’s the case, pressing the Escape
key while loading BoundsChecker at boot time would cure it.

Also, sometimes getting the latest video drivers from the supplier’s web
site helps. But if you tell us a bit more about this (which video board,
which rev of the driver, and so on) we’ll take it from this end and see
what’s going on.

Alberto.

Has anyone seen this problem?

SoftIce, if configured to load at boot time, causes page fault at this
point:

NTICE: Successfully patch NT display driver = ati2draa.dll
Break due to page fault (0Eh). Fault = 0000h

Please help,

Don
