This design would kill the AGP performance. Having usual 1x PCI busses
between the host and the bridge from which AGP grows will introduce a
bottleneck.

You mean there is no PCI versions of those boards?
AFAIK yes.
It was next to impossible to buy a new PCI videocard even a year ago. All
new videocards are AGP.
