This looks like SVN or Git. So, why not use their way of keeping the metadata?

If there is a feature provided (on only 1 FS in the world) - this does not mean that this feature is a good thing.

For me, NTFS ADS are just a generalization of the way the ACLs are kept, which was exposed to the world because it (exposing them) was not so complex (they needed ACLs anyway).

Since this feature breaks the classic notion of file, it cannot be considered good.
