RE: Ragarding PassThru porting on all Windows platform.

Jamit,

I’m glad that worked. As far as debugging goes:

From the Windows 98 DDK, copy the file WDEB98.EXE to Windows\System of
the test machine.

In its autoexec.bat, put:
CD \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
WDEB98 /b /n /c:1 /r:9600 …\win.com
The /b will cause the debugger to break in when VMM32 inits. This will
allow you to load symbol tables, etc. /c and /r are the com port and
baudrate.

On the development machine, run RTERM98, also from the DDK.

From memory, the documentation for the debugger is in the DDK’s Help
folder as Other.chm. Go to Windows 95 documentation and then kernel
debugger (I don’t have it here where I am now). Or, just press ? on the
debug window when the test machine in a break.

You may also want to load VxDldr.VxD in the test machine’s
Windows\System\VMM32 folder. This will report if your driver isn’t
loading because of unsupported functions.

For Windows ME, download the Windows ME debugging tools from
http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/debugging. Also download Q241517 (Windows
ME Debug Binaries) and view Q279356 (NDIS debugging tips for Windows ME)
– see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q279/3/56.ASP.

For Windows 98, also see Q232515 at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q232/5/15.ASP

In the past two weeks or so, I sent on this dist list a laundry list of
other things to think about when porting to 9x/me. Take a look for
those. I don’t have access to it where I am right now, so if I need to
I can send it some other time.

Keep the faith.

Bryan
