I’ve been using my alpha for over 5 years now. It’s really frustrating
that so many programmers seem confused about how to deal with a 64bit
machine. If you choose your types even close to correctly, then there
should be no trouble with word size issues.

32 vs. 64 is not a portability problem.

Most operating system kernels, BTW, have some sort of u32/u64/whatever
types for the use of device driver writers where size matters.
