I assume you are using Windows 2000. You must write an .inf file and “update the driver” on the port to use your driver instead of serial.sys. The toaster example in the ddk shows how to do this somewhat.

Subject: [ntdev] [Nt Dev] Serial COM Port
Hi,
I have a PCI card, which has implementation support for serial port. How can I make this driver as virtual serial driver and give to legacy serial application as a COM port, say COM Port 10. I want see my COM port to be seen as normal COM port, so that serial applications can use this transparently.
How to bypass serenum.sys and load my driver my owm and see expose as a virtual driver.
With Regards,
S.Wind.K
