Re: Junkware stamped with "Certified for Vista" logo?

hello guys,
here’s my point of view…

As a noob driver developper…

In fact, many drivers offers hacking facilities to break into the system. I
personally work (with some help) in reversing a driver to rewrite an
application.

It appears to be a simple IO driver.

Just to communicate with LPT1.
And this driver was in the wind for very serious applications. And i use it
for very serious project.

Nothing to do with a rootkit.

But for the evil, it’s possible to use it for sending ATA commands durectly
to a HDD. Bybassing all protection schemes of windows, overwriting
physically adressed clusters… And even break down an hdd definitivly by
overwriting firmwares.

So what?

StarForce is a PGS driver (pretty good securised) compare with this simple
innocent 7 Kb driver.

Microsoft give a way to acces ring0 and that’s a good thing.

Using ring0 to protect software is a natural born idea.

Nothing to do with a rootkit… Just the same technic… But a rootkit is
not a technic … It’s a goal… (you know waht i mean?)

I personnaly began to study rootkits last month… What about them…
Drivers? Hooks? and so on?
It’s not a big deal.

A NDIS driver is a rootkit?

A keyboard filter driver is a rootkit?

For sure everything can be…

Saying to a perfect innocent people to boot with a live cd and perform a del
io.sys is a mental rootkit.

But don’t think i’m a pro starforce. I personnaly boycot starforce and
(sorry bob but it’s the truth) every game using directx.

I play with opengl (for portability (thx to id software)) and mostly
opensource games.

If you refuse starforce or protection schemes you’ve got 2 solutions… Join
a cracker team ( like Reloaded ) or migrate to a full open source world…

But do not except to have a billion dollard R&D game if programmers works
for free.

That’s it.

So, personnaly i’m using the best of the 2 world…
I’m paied to develop commercial softawres. I’m giving some time to the open
source community. I have a box with linux and one with XP.

I prefer Linux gaming (less candy eye , more interesting).
I prefer Winodws programming (with delphi men!)
I prefer windows for musax.
I prefer Linux for networking.
I prefer Linux for the simplicity of interface.
i prefer windows for… etc… etc… etc…

Some times i buy a real good game.
Some times i illegally download a junk game and play some hours with it.
Saying to me pfiooou it’s beautifull but very boring. And definitvly erase
it.

That’s the real world for many people.

StarForce or not starforce? Lets’ find free good games on internet and make
a donation to developpers.

Or use starforce if you really want this game (or wait for a crack, i
personnaly don’t care).

If there’s a proof thatt starforce can destroy hardware… Hooo… The
problem is different… MAke some buzz more and more and more never giveup
… They will giveup.

That’s the market law.

In fact all i want is a text on the box “This software bypass normal way to
use your hardware using a specific driver use it at your own risk”.

Or

“this software use starforce”…

Well this post is a king of troll…

Here’s my participation.

Good night all.
