Hi,
Sorry! my question is out of topic. May be you guys know better.
On my windows XP machine the registry entry HKLM\SYSTEM has ControlSet001,
ControlSet003, CurrentControlSet entries. All cary the same information.
Wondering why there are three entries?
I appreciate it,
Thanks, shak
The numbered control sets are the persistent copies of the
CurrentControlSet. To see which is active look at the RegKey value:
\HKLM\SYSTEM\Select\Current
My guess is the other is in the LastKnownGood value. Guess what that is used
for?

Maxim,
Thanks for the answer…I was also curious as to exactly what operation
triggers Windows to create a new controlset. Would the installation of a
new driver do this?
Thanks.

Adding a new hardware profile will create a new ControlSet. If there is more
than 1 “active” profile, you will get asked at boot-time which one to use.
Look under “My Computer” -> Properties -> Hardware -> Hardware Profiles.
