transfers some data and quits quickly. When I check the loaded driver
modules, I see KMDF driver as stopped.

I believe that before the exe exits, it unloads the driver.

There are no kmdf drivers because kmdf first released after xp shipped. Vista was the first is to ship with kmdf in box.
