One of our own has joined the team of “crap patents”.
I was doing stuff in DOS and OS/2 in 1990 like this. Why does everyone have
to patent everything? Suppose some patented the AVL tree or the BTREE? I
hang my head in shame for even associating with such people.
Oops, just did some reviewing of my old sources… I did some thing else
like this in 1994 and again in 1997.
Not sure if we should shoot the person filing the patent or the lame-ass
reviewers at the patent office.
In fact, I also worked on a project at Stac in 1996 that did the exact same
thing! Stac shelved the project but I think a provisional patent was filed.
Can you tell I hate software patents?
Jamey
Wow, Jamey! I’m honored! But what else would you expect from a guy, who writes all his code in C++?
Vladimir.

Hi Jamey,
Having a patent is one thing - prosecuting it is another. If it is a common
technique he will have a very hard time finding an attorney who will prosecute
for him without a lot of up-front money.
Many patents are primarily a “vanity patents” which make the holder feel good
but is not good for much else.
